What is DTU Connect?

DTU Connect is a vibrant community platform designed to bring together students, mentors, and resources to facilitate learning, collaboration, and growth.

Education Loan

That's great to hear that the process of obtaining an education loan at DTU is smooth. Visiting SBI and submitting the required documents, followed by verification and approval, makes it convenient for students. The interest rate of (around 8.3%) for loan amounts above 4 lakhs. Additionally, having a repayment period of 5 years provides reasonable time to manage the loan efficiently. It's always advisable for students to check with the specific bank and their loan policies for the most accurate and updated information.

What happens if I miss course registration?

If you miss course registration in DTU, act promptly. Check the website regularly, contact administration or instructors, and appeal for late registration if possible. Learn from the experience and be proactive with future deadlines to avoid issues.

Scholarships- both need-based and merit-based

DTU provides fee concession scholarships each year around November, mainly based on income criteria (under 2 lakh - 3 lakh). Other scholarships are available for minorities and different categories, including NTSE, post-metric for SC/ST students, and more. Another option is the MCM e-district scholarship, which may be comparatively easier to obtain, but it might have a delayed application process. Students should actively monitor the DTU website and government sources to explore and apply for all available scholarship opportunities.

Is CGPA important?

As much as people will tell you that it isn't, it is always safe to keep it as high as possible(8.5+). Some companies may restrict you some may not. If it comes down to choosing between you and someone who has a higher cg, it’s gonna be them. Many of you must be wondering about the importance of the cumulative grade point average. Never listen to any advice along the lines of “CGPA is not important” or “CGPA zaroori nahi hai.” Maintaining a CGPA of 8.0 or above is considered good and at times essential, for both good placements and internships. Having a decent CGPA is the bare minimum that everyone in the college can do to develop a good profile.

Is 75% Attendance necessary?

In the first year, students don't necessarily get detained for low attendance. Although, teachers tend to give internal marks based on your attendance so again its better to attend as many classes as you can if you have nothing better to do.

Be thorough with the previous year papers, assignments that are provided by teachers and a few notes / books for reference.

Choose FEC like logical reasoning, soft skills & personality development, outreach, communication skills, and yoga based on better grades, lower input required, and attendance leniency Reviews can be found here. Note that EVS is compulsory and should be taken before the 4th semester if possible. Efforts to secure EVS should be made before the 4th semester.

You can join DTU Connect by signing up for an account on our website or mobile app. Membership is free and open to all students.

How supportive are the professors here?

Apart from them being strict when it comes to dealing with students if you have a genuine problem or an idea or want to volunteer on their ongoing research, they do guide you. (Brownie points for being the CR of the class. However, that doesn’t matter a lot)

How to find a peer group of your interest(coding, research, UPSC, startup, etc)?

Joining societies could be a great way to find people with similar interests. If you are into UPSC join the MUN society, if want to get into core research join the core society/tech team of your branch. The key is to join a society and talk to people who have similar interests and don’t hesitate to share your ideas. Sharing an idea is different. Implementing it is the key.

How to apply for DTU internships?

The university offers something known as USIP Internships which recruits for various depts and startups. You can also apply for off-campus internships that help you build your profile. Cold-emailing and contacting HRs through LinkedIn is another way to get internships. There are various ways to get internships from sources like Internshala, Angellist, and other job portals.

Do college societies play any role in placement?

Certainly, being a part of a college society does play a role in placements. It gives you exposure, leadership skills, team management, experience, and confidence, all of which can be important in placement interviews. Societies enable students to interact, learn, and grow, helping to develop a well-rounded personality that recruiters look for.

Should I learn coding from the first year itself?

Yes, it's good to start learning coding from the first year itself, especially if you are aiming for software or tech roles. Building a strong foundation in coding will open up many opportunities in your future career and internships. Starting early will give you more time to practice and develop your skills, enabling you to take on more complex projects and challenges.

My branch is Chemical and I want to get into coding.

Even if your branch is Chemical, getting into coding is absolutely possible. Many students from non-CS backgrounds go on to have successful careers in tech. Start with online resources, platforms, and coding boot camps to build your skills. Join coding clubs, attend hackathons, and network with people who share your interest. Your branch doesn't have to be a barrier; with dedication and the right resources, you can pursue a coding career.

How does one know whether he/she should change the branch or not?

Deciding to change your branch can be a significant decision, and it should be based on various factors, including your interest in the subjects, your future career aspirations, and your performance in the current branch. If you find yourself more drawn to another field and believe that it aligns better with your goals, then a branch change might be the right choice. Does a non-circuit branch affect my chances of getting placed in a core tech company?

Being in a non-circuit branch does not necessarily affect your chances of getting placed in a core tech company, especially if you have developed strong coding and technical skills. Many companies look for problem-solving abilities, coding proficiency, and logical thinking rather than the specific branch. Participate in internships, work on projects, improve soft skills, and prepare for technical and HR interviews. How much weightage do projects carry in the selection process of companies?
